The first-ever Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido comes to Playa Zicatela’s famous “Mexican Pipeline” this August. The event is a three-star ASP World Qualifying Series contest and is the first ASP event ever to be held during Puerto Escondido’s peak swell period. The event will run from August 12-19 and will be webcasted live at Quiksilver.com.

To accommodate the anticipated large surf, organizers have scheduled an eight day holding period window for the contest as opposed to the usual three days.  Surf heights could reach above 20 feet. With waves this huge, expect a full on assault by the best big wave local chargers and international talent where one thing can be for certain; the contest is going to be big.

Quiksilver Latin American team-riders Cristobol de Col, Gabriel Villaran, Martinez and Ramon Navarro are set to compete along with Quiksilver Young Guns Clay Marzo and Tyler Newton out of Hawaii and Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau Invitee Mark Healey. Newton, coming off a recent win at the NSSA Nationals last month will be gunning for a pro win and a piece of the $50,000 cash prize purse up for grabs.  The young rippers will be joined by legendary Northern California Mavericks charger Peter Mel who is signed up to compete as well as co-host the contest’s webcast.

Colour Card September

A quirky blend of vintage inspired styles all piled on to create an artistically eccentric mismatched look.  Mismatched buttons, hand knit looks, chunky gauge knits, archive stitch mixes, melange yarns and tweeds remind us of granny’s closet.

Silhouettes have mildly miss-happen feel, with bunched-up and juxtaposed proportions creating a twist on the traditionally prim.

Colour looks to an inventive mix of dowdy mid-tones enlivened with kitschy bursts of cherry, karma red and dark mustard.

Look to tweed coats, relaxed easy-wrap cardigans, capes, dropped waists and wide leg trousers.

While embellishments are low key, dressmaker details come into focus, including decadent faux fur linings, vintage decorative buttons, printed linings and discrete lurex in the fabrics.

80’s pop colour card for August 2009

This is where the Roxy girl finds her edge.  She twists her classics to give her a rebellious touch.  The metal stud charms, stud buttons, foil prints and the use of lurex add the essential rock chick vibe to this theme.

A neutral colour palette gets brought alive with bright accents or details.  The slouchy crop has surfaced as a directional trouser style for autumn/winter 2009.

The anti-fit pant frequenting the catwalks is perfect to update any winter wardrobe.

Using the traditional pea coat as an inspiration for jackets.  The stylish 50’s floral prints and the tartan play a key role in this mood.  Toughening up never felt so sweet…

Military meets hippy deluxe.  A folkloric look, mixed with a taste of the 70’s hippy for this seasons perfect boho update.  Warm opulent colour, added ornamentation, home craft details and paisleys.

Nonchalant styling gives the look a bohemian edge.

Draw inspiration from the wardrobes of the 60’s groupies Marianne Faithfull and Anita Pallenberg, mixing hippy with rock n roll for an original rock-chic feel.
